For over twenty-five years, Mr. Vaughn-Flam has specialized in commercial and intellectual property practice and litigation.
Mr. Vaughn-Flam’s significant commercial practice serves a wide variety of companies engaged in the manufacturing, retail and service industries.
The intellectual property practice of the firm focuses in the areas of trademark, (registration, prosecution, and infringement litigation); copyright (media, internet, literary property, and entertainment); patent litigation, and advertising law.
Mr. Vaughn-Flam is a frequent lecturer, including for the AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION, Litigation Forum on Intellectual Property Entertainment and Sports Industries, THE SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAPHERS & ARTISTS REPRESENTATIVES, and has published numerous articles in the area of copyright and trademark protection.
Mr. Vaughn-Flam has previously distinguished himself: (a) in a music infringement action concerning Madonna’s hit Song “Holiday,” where for the first time ring tone technology was utilized as a critical element in the prosecution of a music infringement claim (b) having won an appeal in the case Dallal v. The NY Times, concerning copyright issues as applied to the internet, and (c) representing the plaintiff in Hootie and the Blowfish v. Newman, in what is regarded as the largest management dispute on record and (d) as lead litigation counsel in the much publicized multi-national securities lawsuit Daiwa Securities v. RCMCAF Ltd.
Mr. Vaughn-Flam has been previously involved as both counsel and a principal in the development of numerous startup companies, including Rokon Systems Inc., where proprietary ceramic technology has been developed to permanently and inexpensively contain radioactive nuclear waste; Satelcom, a Dominican telecommunications company; The Original New York Improv, a national brand comedy club, and numerous entertainment productions; and Neutocrete, a franchiser of proprietary sealant material.
From 1984-1985, Mr. Vaughn-Flam served as President of Cook Records.
